Biostimulators
Stimulate your body's own collagen and elastin with Sculptra and Radiesse — for natural, long-lasting facial rejuvenation that improves over time.
About Biostimulators
Unlike traditional dermal fillers that add volume directly, biostimulators work by activating your body's own collagen and elastin production for results that develop gradually and look entirely natural. At Alonso Aesthetics & Wellness in Tampa, Florida, we offer two FDA-approved biostimulators — Sculptra and Radiesse — each with unique properties suited to different treatment goals.
Biostimulators are ideal for patients seeking long-lasting improvement in skin quality, texture, and volume without the "filled" look. Results can last two years or more, making them an excellent investment in your skin's long-term health. Every treatment is administered by our board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Gwen Alonso, MSN, APRN, FNP-C.

Areas Treated
Sculptra®
Sculptra (injectable poly-L-lactic acid / PLLA-SCA) is indicated for use in people with healthy immune systems for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies, fine lines and wrinkles in the cheek region, and other facial wrinkles. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra stimulates your own body's collagen and elastin production for results that look entirely natural and improve over time.
Why We Love Sculptra
-
Not a Traditional Filler
Sculptra is a biostimulator, not a hyaluronic acid filler. It works by stimulating your body's own collagen and elastin production for results that develop gradually and look completely natural.
-
Long-Lasting Results
Proven safe and effective with results lasting at least 2 years. The collagen your body produces is your own, so results age naturally with you.
-
Improves Skin Quality
Beyond volume restoration, Sculptra improves overall skin quality and texture, giving you a healthier, more youthful appearance from within.
-
Ideal for Volume Loss
Particularly effective for patients who have experienced facial volume loss due to aging or weight loss. Minimal downtime and easy recovery.

Radiesse
Radiesse is a biostimulator made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. It smooths moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, while simultaneously stimulating the body's natural collagen production for long-term improvement in skin texture and elasticity.
-
Dual-Action Results
Radiesse provides immediate volume and lift upon injection, while also encouraging natural collagen growth over time. You see results instantly with continued improvement over months.
-
Versatile Treatment Areas
FDA-approved for facial rejuvenation and hand rejuvenation. Also used for neck, knees, and buttocks to restore volume and improve skin quality in areas prone to aging.
-
Long-Lasting Collagen Stimulation
The calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres create a scaffold that stimulates your body to produce its own collagen, providing structural support and improved skin texture that lasts well beyond the initial treatment.
Ariessence PDGF
Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) is a powerful regenerative treatment that can be combined with other services or used on its own for targeted rejuvenation.
-
Microneedling Enhancement
PDGF can be applied during microneedling to boost collagen production and speed skin healing, enhancing the results of your microneedling session.
-
Under-Eye Rejuvenation
Used off-label, PDGF-BB is injected to stimulate collagen and improve skin thickness under the eyes, helping with darkness, hollows, and crepey skin.
-
Hair Restoration
PDGF nourishes hair follicles and promotes new hair growth by increasing blood supply and cell activity in the scalp.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Sculptra and dermal fillers?
Traditional dermal fillers (like Juvederm or Restylane) add volume directly using hyaluronic acid gel. Sculptra is a biostimulator that works differently — it stimulates your body to produce its own collagen over time, resulting in gradual, natural-looking improvement that lasts 2+ years.
How many Sculptra sessions will I need?
The general recommendation is one vial per decade of life. For example, a 42-year-old would typically need approximately 4 vials over the first year. Each treatment session uses 1-3 vials and sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Gwen will create a personalized treatment plan at your consultation.
When will I see results from Sculptra?
Sculptra results develop gradually as your body produces new collagen. You may notice subtle improvements within a few weeks, with full results typically visible 3-6 months after your treatment series is complete. Results last at least 2 years.
What areas can Radiesse treat?
Radiesse is FDA-approved for facial rejuvenation (nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks) and hand rejuvenation. It's also used off-label for the neck, jawline, knees, and buttocks to restore volume and improve skin quality.
Can I get Sculptra and dermal filler on the same day?
Yes! Sculptra and dermal fillers can be combined in the same session. Many patients benefit from immediate volume with filler while Sculptra works in the background to stimulate long-term collagen production.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal. You may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites for a few days. With Sculptra, you'll need to massage the treated areas 5 times a day for 5 minutes for 5 days post-treatment (the "5-5-5 rule").
Can I still get a facelift after Sculptra?
Yes. Sculptra is not a contraindication for surgical facelift procedures. Many patients use Sculptra to maintain and enhance their results between or after surgical procedures.
What is Ariessence PDGF?
Ariessence PDGF (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor) is a regenerative treatment that stimulates collagen production and cell activity. It can be applied during microneedling, injected under the eyes to improve hollows and crepey skin, or used on the scalp to promote hair growth.
